Hi Jane
Fimo is a bit unforgiving for stop-motion animation.
I would reccomend using traditional plasticine for the main animations though he could for instance model eyeballs using Fimo... Fimo tends to go hard and is great for little accessories that don't require movement. Wire frames (or armatures) are good and can be made of single core copper 'earth' wire available from most DIY or trade electrical counters. Make sure the type you get is fairly pliable and not too stiff.
Glad to hear he has the technical sorted out... Over the Christmas period we will be launching a new version of the website which will provide facilities to upload as well as help and community support for things like animation projects. The site has the backing of Microsoft and will be moderated and advert free.
Perhaps you could encourage your son to upload his projects in the new year and we can give him some feedback.
Kind Regards
Peter Roe
