During the holiday we checked out Panasonic's HDC-SD9D Full High Definition SD Card Camcorder...
Initially we were very impressed... all the features you could probaly want (but at a price £450 ex VAT). I was particularly impressed with the picture quality and the battery length. With no moving parts the standard battery was offering over 3 hours of recording.
The products downfall for me was that the transfer of footage from the camera to laptop. this was not straight forward. The SD card slotted nicely into the laptop, but to take the footage and put it into a useable format in moviemaker we had to use the Panasonic software to convert the fies into Mpeg 2.... which only works with Vista. Even when I eventually then imported the Mpeg 2 files to moviemaker's collections the transfer had not detected the individual clips, all I had was one long 'clip of clips....!'
As previously mentioned the picture quality was great, but working in schools where time is so important and ease of use essential this camera would not be on my wish list.
I would appreciate anyone elses experience in using SD cameras...
I really want to find a DV SD Camera which I can drag the files straight into 'My Videos' (Vista and XP) then import straight into my moviemaker collections... with no additional software.... just like the N95 does (in Vista)
To be fair on the HDC-SD9D I have not yet tried it on a Mac... has anyone else? it would save me the time and frustration!!!!
